First class BSc Business Management graduate Cara Lewis will be taking up a graduate position with a local company after graduating at the Swansea University degree and awards ceremony at the Great Hall, Bay Campus today (22 July).
Cara, aged 22 from Swansea, was one of the first tranche of seven students to take part in the School of Management’s pilot year for the 12-month placement programme 2014-2015.
Studying Business Management, Cara took a leap of faith in being one of the first to venture in to the work placement arena, where she worked with local medical devices firm DTR Medical Ltd for 12 months.
During her final year, Cara continued to work for DTR Medical part-time as a Marketing Assistant. The success continues however, as DTR Medical have subsequently offered her a graduate position with their company as a Marketing Communications Coordinator, which Cara has accepted.
Cara’s experience is a great example of how well the placements programme can work, and shows how having the employability elements embedded into programmes can help support students in securing their first graduate job.
Speaking about her experience at Swansea University Cara said: “I have had an invaluable time at Swansea University where I was given the opportunity to develop my personal skills as well as my academic ability. On my return to university I was thrilled to see the significant investment in staff and student facilities and the variety of modules that are now on offer to new students.”
DTR Medical Managing Director, Andrew Davidson says, “We are thrilled to see the recognition Cara is receiving from Swansea University which is totally justified. We saw her make full use of her work experience with DTR Medical and we are delighted she has returned to become an important part of our team’s future growth”.
