6 years, 14 students, 1 successful company.

It’s safe to say that since DTR Medical started their placement programme, there has been mutual benefits for all involved. 100% of the students have since successfully secured a job or further education place, with 2 graduates returning to take up a full-time position at the company.

For DTR Medical, one of the best schemes the company has been involved with is the “Year in Industry” programme, where students bring skills, knowledge, a desire to learn and enthusiasm to the company. Each person has made a significant contribution to the business development, and most of those who have graduated achieved first class degrees. This type of partnership really is WIN:WIN:WIN; the student gets a great start in their career, the University can promote this to attract students in the future; and the company gains support to develop and grow, including producing ready-made team members who understand the firm.

One notable success from the scheme was Frances Dalton, who joined DTR Medical in 2012 as a New Product Development Engineer. Following the placement, Frances went on to complete her third year at Cardiff University where she achieved a First-Class Degree in Medical Engineering and also collected two prizes: Engineering School Prize for Best Mechanical/Medical Engineering Project and the ‘WRD Jones Prize’ for Outstanding Performance in the subject of Materials. Frances, commenting on her awards, said “I wouldn’t have won either if it wasn’t for the experience I gained during the year in industry.” Since graduating, Frances joined Corin, a global leader in Orthopaedic innovation, as a Product Development Engineer, and has recently began a new position there as an Associate Product Manager.

DTR Medical is delighted to see its work placements gain so much from their time with the company, “We are thrilled to see the success of our previous placement students and learn of the experience they gained during their time with the company. Work placements are a win for the student, for the University and for the company; we encourage more companies to take advantage of these schemes” says Andrew Davidson, the Managing Director of DTR Medical.

DTR Medical are now looking for new students to place in both the Business and Engineering departments in the 2017/18 academic year. If you are interested in such a placement at DTR Medical please email marketing@dtrmedical.com or call +44(0) 1792 797910.
