DTR Medical is to showcase its latest innovations at Arab Health 2017, including an innovative training simulator and additions to its range of sterile single-use instruments.

The leading manufacturer of high quality medical devices will be presenting its new LLETZlearn® Training Simulator, which enables the trainee to practice performing cervical procedures while gaining the confidence and competence they need prior to working on a patient.

Developed in collaboration with Anna Barbour, Gynaecology Outpatient Sister, and Theresa Freeman-Wang, Consultant Gynaecologist, the LLETZlearn® Training Simulator has been designed to be used with electro-surgical tools in order to further simulate real-life procedures, which in turn improves the skills of trainees, whilst also eliminating the risk to patients.

The simulator benefits from the use of pins which securely hold the specimen in place, offering ease and efficiency during procedures, and features intuitive assembly and is easy to clean. Anna Barbour said:

“It is difficult for new clinicians to know exactly what to do when carrying out procedures with certainty for the very first time, coupled with the fact that it is also challenging for trainees to truly know the extent of how to use new tools. These realities pointed directly to the fact that something was needed in order for both experienced and inexperienced clinicians to practice, to essentially create safer procedures for patients.”

To further complement the Gynaecology range, DTR Medical have evolved the design of the Cervical Rotating Biopsy Punch which features a low profile jaw for better access and visibility of the transformation zone when it has migrated to the endocervical  canal.

The single-use instrument eliminates cross contamination and avoids the time-consuming process of repeated sterilisation. It is therefore essential for busy clinics as the metal jaw ensures a sharp, clean, 3.0 x 7.5mm cut that delivers consistent results. As the handle is made with 20% to 37% renewable material, utilising a renewably sourced propanediol (PDO) made from technical starch, the Cervical Rotating Biopsy Punch is also environmentally friendly.

To support their Ophthalmic range, DTR Medical is also be presenting a double-ended Punctum Dilator which has been designed with a round knurled handle for improved grip. Its 17mm and 21mm tapered ends allow for increased range of dilation to offer added flexibility. Expanding this product line is the new Punctum Seeker, featuring a sharp tip to ensure high performance when locating the Lacrimal Punctum, and Double-ended Lacrimal Probes, which are available with two size options for adaptability during procedures. Their thin wire with rounded ends allow the surgeon to effectively clear the passageway to the tear duct.

Ed Casey, DTR Medical Export Manager, said: “We are delighted to be once again showcasing our latest innovations at Arab Health 2017. The new LLETZlearn® Training Simulator has been developed specifically to support the the learning needs of trainee Gynaecologists, while the latest additions to our Ophthalmic and Gynaecology range offer improved functionality and adaptability. We are looking forward to meeting potential distributors at Arab Health 2017, particularly from South Africa.”
